El biopic de la fallecida estrella de la música tropical, protagonizado por el reconocido actor Raúl Carbonell, Jr., estará disponible luego de ganar el Premio a la Mejor Película en el Rincón International Film Festival de Puerto Rico, 2013 (RIFF).

Carbonell, la misma estrella del musical de Broadway "¿Quién Mató a Héctor Lavoe?", encabeza un elenco de primer nivel que integran, además, Joanna Vargas y Patricia Manterola (como las dos mujeres de Lavoe y madres de sus hijos: 'Puchi' y 'Carmen'), India (Priscila, hermana del salsero), Edwin Colón Zayas (el cuatrista Yomo Toro), Luis José López (el salsero Willie Colón), Renoly Santiago (el productor musical y creador de la Fania All-Stars Johnny Pacheco), Héctor González (Jerry Masucci, presidente de la Fania) y Jaime Sánchez (Héctor Maisonave, mánager de Lavoe), entre otras relevantes figuras.

Conjuntamente con la comedia "El Barrio", que también dirigió y produjo Felton para televisión, "The King: The Untold Story of Héctor Lavoe" se estrenará en un "combo pack" este viernes, 30 de agosto, por Vimeo On Demand.

La razón por la que el aclamado director, productor y guionista del filme ha decidido poner a disposición de la fanaticada esta joya cinematográfica en el internet es para hacerle frente a la piratería y evitar el alto costo de las copias y su distribución.

Esta historia conmovedora de Felton Entertainment que cuenta con el guión de Anthony Feltón y las colaboraciones del actor Luis Arrollo y del cineasta Marco Antonio Olmos, relata la fascinante vida de un niño llamado Héctor Pérez quien nació en Ponce, Puerto Rico, y que crece con el sueño de convertirse en un aclamado cantante hasta hacerlo realidad.

Héctor cambió la escena musical desde la década del 70 hasta su muerte, en 1993, con una atrevida mezcla de rumba, merengue, mambo, cha-cha-chá, bolero y otros ritmos folklóricos tradicionales que conducen a la invención de un nuevo sonido que llamaron 'salsa'.

Sin embargo, todo este éxito pareciera haber llegado a su vida con un precio proporcional a la tragedia. Felton le comentó a la Agencia EFE, en una entrevista exclusiva que quiso hacer este filme porque "mucha gente no sabe lo que el muchacho sufrió, lo que pasó, tenía una nube negra desde que nació y creció con ella. Perdió a su hermano y a su madre [cuando era un niño] y luego en Nueva York a un tío y su hijo".

De acuerdo a los productores, el público podrá adquirir "The King" en español o en inglés, por solo 4.00 dólares, y "El Barrio" por US$3.00. Y si desean comprarlas ambas en "Combo Pack" por cinco dólares.
